Families looking for something to do this weekend can find two free community events in Otsego on Saturday, October 10.

The city is combining a Fire Station Open House with its annual Pumpkin Patch for a morning of activities at two nearby locations.

The Fire Station Open House runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 14499 75th St. NE, with visitors asked to enter from 75th Street.

The open house gives residents a chance to tour Otsego's new fire station, meet firefighters, see fire trucks and equipment, and learn about fire safety.

Snacks and refreshments will also be available during the open house.

About a mile away, the Pumpkin Patch takes place from 10 a.m. to noon at Prairie Park, 13355 90th St. NE.

The Pumpkin Patch is geared toward families and includes a Halloween-themed morning with costumes, music, trick-or-treating along the Pumpkin Patch Trail, pumpkin picking and an arts and crafts show.

The city recommends registering for the Pumpkin Patch in advance, while registration is not required for the Fire Station Open House.

Because both events begin at 10 a.m., families can choose one activity, split their morning between the two, or visit the fire station first and then head to Prairie Park.

The two locations also give visitors a chance to experience different sides of the community in one morning, from a look inside a newer public-safety facility to a seasonal outdoor celebration.

The Pumpkin Patch is part of Otsego's Parks and Recreation programming, while the fire station event offers a closer look at the people and equipment involved in local fire protection.

There is also a community-service component to the day.

The city is asking attendees to consider bringing a donation for the CAER Food Shelf, with collection points available at either event location.

For families with young children, the Pumpkin Patch offers the more traditional fall activities, while the open house may appeal to kids who are fascinated by fire trucks, firefighters and emergency equipment.

The city says the events are intended to be a fun-filled day for the whole family, making Saturday's schedule an easy local option for residents who want to stay close to home.

At a glance:

Fire Station Open House: Saturday, October 10, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 14499 75th St. NE.

Pumpkin Patch: Saturday, October 10, 10 a.m. to noon, Prairie Park, 13355 90th St. NE.

Registration: Recommended for the Pumpkin Patch; not required for the Fire Station Open House.

Community donation: CAER Food Shelf donations can be dropped off at either event.

For families in Otsego and the surrounding Northwest Twin Cities area, the two events offer a simple way to make a Saturday morning feel like a fall outing without traveling far from home.
